OUR MISSION
Speech and debate sharpens communication skills, builds confidence, and strengthens research skills. Yet, many students around the world lack the resources and materials to learn speech and debate. Take the Mic is here to change that by providing them with the tools and support they need to speak up and shine.
Speech and debate shaped who I am today. Through debate, I learned how to clearly express my ideas, think critically, and confidently share my voice. I would not have the confidence I have today without access to these programs.
Unfortunately, many students do not have the same opportunities. Schools in low-income communities often lack speech and debate programs, and many families cannot afford private coaching. As a result, countless students never get the chance to develop essential skills such as communication, leadership, and analytical thinking.
Speech and debate can be life-changing. They empower students to gain confidence, strengthen their research abilities, and develop a voice capable of making an impact. Yet only 15–30% of schools in the United States offer speech and debate programs, and millions of students worldwide are never exposed to them.
Take the Mic was created to close this gap, by making speech and debate accessible to students who are eager to learn, grow, and be heard.
